GENERAL VEHICLE SERVICE
Vehicle Servicing List
- Engine Oil and Filter Change:
- Replace engine oil and oil filter to ensure proper engine lubrication.
- Interval: Every 5,000 to 10,000 miles or according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Check and Top up Fluids:
- Coolant: Ensure proper levels and check for leaks in the cooling system.
- Brake Fluid: Check levels and refill as necessary. Test the fluid's condition (colour and consistency).
- Power Steering Fluid: Top up and inspect for leaks.
- Transmission Fluid: Check the level and condition (colour and smell) and refill or replace as needed.
- Windshield Washer Fluid: Keep the reservoir filled for clear visibility.
- Differential Fluid (for 4WD/AWD vehicles): Inspect and change if necessary.
- Engine Air Filter Replacement:
- Replace the air filter to ensure clean airflow to the engine, improving performance and fuel efficiency.
- Interval: Every 20,000 to 30,000 miles.
- Fuel Filter Replacement:
- Change the fuel filter to prevent contaminants from clogging the fuel system.
- Interval: Every 30,000 to 50,000 miles, depending on the vehicle.
- Spark Plug Inspection/Replacement:
- Check the spark plugs for wear and replace them to maintain optimal engine performance and fuel efficiency.
- Interval: Every 30,000 to 50,000 miles, depending on the type of spark plugs.
- Inspect and Replace Timing Belt or Chain:
- Check the timing belt or chain for wear or damage and replace it if necessary.
- Interval: Typically every 70,000 to 100,000 miles (for timing belts; chains may last longer but should be inspected).
- Differential and Transfer Case Fluid Change (4WD/AWD):
- Inspect and change the differential fluid to ensure the proper functioning of the drivetrain.
- Interval: Every 50,000 to 60,000 miles
- Brake Pads and Discs (Rotors) Inspection:
- Check the brake pads for wear and replace them if they are below the minimum thickness. Inspect brake rotors for scoring and warping.
- Interval: Every 30,000 to 40,000 miles or based on wear.
- Inspect Brake Lines and Hoses:
- Check for leaks, cracks, or wear in the brake lines and hoses.
- Suspension System Inspection:
- Inspect shock absorbers, struts, and suspension components for wear or leaks.
- Interval: During routine service.
- Tire Rotation and Balancing:
- Rotate tires to ensure even tread wear and prolong the life of the tires.
- Interval: Every 5,000 to 7,000 miles.
- Tire Pressure Check:
- Check and adjust tire pressure to manufacturer specifications for better fuel economy, safety, and tire life.
- Interval: Monthly or at every service.
- Tire Tread Depth Inspection:
- Check the tread depth to ensure safe traction and replace tires when the tread is too worn.
- Battery Inspection:
- Check the battery terminals for corrosion, test the voltage, and replace the battery if it’s weak.
- Interval: Every 3 to 5 years or when signs of battery issues arise.
- Inspect Lights (Headlights, Tail Lights, Indicators):
- Ensure all lights are working properly and replace any bulbs that are burned out.
- Test and Replace Wiper Blades:
- Inspect wiper blades for wear and replace them if they leave streaks or don’t clear the windshield properly.
- Interval: Every 12 months.
- Exhaust System Inspection:
- Check for exhaust leaks, rust, or damage to the muffler, catalytic converter, or exhaust pipes.
- Cabin Air Filter Replacement:
- Replace the cabin air filter to maintain clean airflow inside the vehicle. Interval: Every 30,000 miles.
- Inspect Belts and Hoses:
- Check all engine belts (serpentine, timing) and hoses for signs of wear, cracks, or leaks and replace them if necessary.
- Inspect Underbody for Leaks:
- Look for any fluid leaks (oil, coolant, transmission fluid) under the vehicle.
- Check for Rust and Corrosion:
- Inspect the bodywork, undercarriage, and frame for rust and corrosion, especially in older vehicles.
Vehicle Safety Systems
- Check Parking Brake:
- Test and adjust the parking brake to ensure it holds the vehicle securely.
- Test Vehicle Sensors (ABS, Traction Control, etc.):
- Check that all vehicle sensors are working properly using a diagnostic tool.
